How To Become A King

The journey of a 1000 miles begins with 1 step

In The Land Of The Blind, The One Eyed Man Is King. What does this mean?

Someone with limited abilities is dominant over those who have even fewer abilities. The value of any ability depends on its prevalence.

I struggle with starting new skills and goals. My thought process goes: "what's the point of learning this new skill? There are thousands and thousands of people out there aspiring to be a new copywriter/marketing manager/ ghost writer/ email marketing / XYZ."

Expecially on Twitter/X nowadays, everyone is a copywriter or marketing wizard (if you have to believe them at least).

But then I realize that most of them suck. They probably did one course on copywriting and now call themselves copywriters.

And that’s what the proverb above is all about. It's easy to become better than most people by just developing your skillset a little bit. Because most haven't developed it at all.

Developing new skills

Alex Hormozi says that it (only!) takes 20 hours to become proficient in any skill.

This means: work on your skills. No matter what it is. Put in the hours. Most people haven't put in 20 hours of copywriting. That's why the bar is so low.

Whenever I want to develop myself, I buy a course to get the basics right. After that, I practice on my own. Or even give my work away for free. It doesn't really matter, put in the reps.

No excuses

Want to get better at something? Start doing it more. And everything is a skill essentially.

Want to get better at running? Run more.

Want to get better at cold outreach? Reach out more.

Want to get better at writing? Write more. Start a blog.

Want to get better at controlling your temper? Control your emotions more.

There are literally no excuses. You just have to become aware of the fact that you can learn anything. This is the main problem.

From a young age you were told what you could and couldn't do. Growing up you heard grown people around you all making excuses why they couldn't do something.

And you still hear this. Family and friends who all have reason why they can't lose weight. Why they can’t change jobs.

But most importantly, you are making excuses. Why you can't start a side business. Why you can't pursue your passions. "I don't know how" killed more dreams than screaming baby's at night did.

I'm pursuing to become a screen writer. I have no idea how this is done. What I can control is how good of a writer I am. Therefore, I started writing my own stories.

I keep developing this skill, and eventually I will figure how I can become a screen writer.

You went to school for 4 years to start working. You can work on your skills for a few months without any reward.

I believe that whenever you want something really bad, the universe/God tests you on how much you really want it. If you really want to become a business owner, but quit after a few months, you not really want it.

God helps those who help themselves. God doens't help those who give up and make excuses.

It's a game

I like to see these things as 'Takeshi's Castle'. There are 1000 people on Twitter right now aspiring to be an email copywriter. Every day, people quit and get bumped off the track.

The less people are trying, the easier it gets for the people that still try.

In the end, 950 people quit, and the 50 that had the persistence, got more work than they can handle. They start to tell people "Hey you should become a copywriter! there's more work here than we can handle!".

And the whole process starts all over again.

In this case, the biggest roadblock is you. As long as you don't quit, you can reach the finish line. Especially when you keep in mind that most people suck and give up.

How to keep playing

Work on things that light something in yourself up. It's impossible to keep working on something that you don't like. It shouldn’t feel like a chore.

See this as a very long-term game that ends when you die. Every day the goal is to come one step closer to your vision. I work at an office from 9 to 5, and work on my goals from 7 to 9 PM. I like my job, but it's not what I want to do for the rest of my life. So everyday I create my dream life bit by bit.

There's no rush, no pressure, just consistent steps to the top of the mountain. The journey of a thousand miles begins with one step. That's how I see it.

Which path do you take?

It's never been easier to make something of your life. But it's also never been easier to live your life in complacency.

There are thousands and thousands of courses and videos online, for free(!) on how to start working out. How to start a business.

There are thousands of persons online explaining everything to you on how to make something of your life. The answers are out there, for fee.

The other side of the coin is that there are thousands and thousands of memes and TikTok and Reels online. Of cats doing stupid things. Or people.

There are thousands of persons online trolling and making fun of everything.

Which path do you take?

Which videos to you watch? What persons do you follow? Do you use the internet, or is the internet using you?

They say that you are an average of the 5 persons you hang out the most with. I'd say, you are the average of the 5 persons whose content you watch the most.

We live in a digital age. Who you follow online is more important than ever.

There's a reason all these meme accounts have so many followers, and value creators so little. Most people want to be distracted. They want to be blind. They have no intent of being king.

And hey, that's good news for you! The more blind people, the less the competition for the thrown.

How do you end up as a King? And not as a Blind person?

In a country, there can only be 1 king. Per definition this king is different than the rest of the people.

It's the same with life. If you do what everybody else is doing, you'll end up like everybody else. You have to go against the stream to end up higher.

Salmon spend their juvenile lives in lakes and rivers. When it's time to reproduce, they return to the upstream rivers to reproduce.

Only the salmons that are good enough to go upstream, reproduce. It's the same with humans.

Only the persons that have discipline, work ethic and persistence, end up upstream.

Do what the 95% is not doing

There are a couple of activities that you know you should be doing, but aren't doing. Just like the rest of the population isn't doing them.

Meditate. You know you should be meditating. Increase your awareness and ability to focus. Control your emotions. Most people are not able to do that.

Work-out. There are a thousand reasons to go to the gym. The best reason: because most people think it's too hard. In the land of the fat, the fit person is king.

Spending time alone. I think this is the most important one. And I don't just mean spend time alone watching Netflix in bed.

I mean, spending time alone with your thoughts. Contemplate on your interests, on your doubts. What do you really want out of life? Don't numb yourself with distractions and cheap dopamine.

You'll get the most important insights when you contemplate.

Cure your blindness

It's not easy to get your sight back. It means that you have to live your life in a completely different way.

The good part is, is that so many people are living on auto-modus, that even working on yourself a little bit, will set you apart.

The average human nowadays:

- distracted, terrible attention curve.

- wants instant gratification.

- terrible at being alone.

-fat and unfit.

By spending 10 minutes each day meditation. By working out 2 times a week. By spending time alone contemplating 10 minutes each day, you'll end up in the top 5%.

That's the current situation. Do these things and you'll end up with the better jobs. With the better partner. With better health. You can literally end up at the top of society by working even just a little bit on yourself.
