Set The Highest Possible Standard For Yourself

How not to half-ass your only life.

Do you realize that you only get 1 life? Do you realize that this lifetime is the only lifetime you got to achieve all your dreams and goals?

Do you realize, that if you don't achieve your goals and dreams now, you'll never achieve them?

Probably not. And even if you realize this, do you act in this way?

Settling for less

As far as science knows, we only get one life. Unless you believe you'll re-incarnate, then this newsletter will not be for you.

Most people, and you too, act like there are unlimited do-overs. You are lazy, you postpone your work. You get up in the morning, go to a job you don't like. Only to return home and watch TV. And this is your life in an unlimited loop.

When you lay on your deathbed, realizing that you are about to die and won't get another chance, you are full of regret.

You know you could've been great. You know you could've achieved amazing things, but instead you settled for less.

You think that those dreams aren't meant for you. You parents, your teachers and friends, all settle for less. Who are you to achieve all those great things you think about?

You were raised by society to set low standards. That's what everybody else around you is doing. You copy others. You are half-sleeping through life, not realizing that you are wasting it.

That whispering voice

There's a whispering voice in your head, telling you that you can achieve great things. That voice is telling everybody different things. What it tells you, that's your calling. That's your vision that you should pursue.

And everyday that you don't act on that voice, it goes a little more silent. Like a burning candle, it's strength weakens.

So you numb yourself. You start distracting yourself with cheap entertainment and pleasures. With Netflix, porn and alcohol. Eventually the voice will go silent.

Look around you at all the people of 50 years and older. You can point exactly to the people who don't have a goal in life anymore. The light in there eyes has faded.

It's that how you want to end up?

That voice is there for a reason. It's like Paul Coelho in The Alchemist says:

"When you are young, you know your destiny. But, as time passes, a mysterious force begins to convince them that it will be impossible for them to realize their destiny."

You have to start acting on that voice. Otherwise it'll be lost forever. And you will have wasted your life. Your only life.

You don't learn in school what your 'calling' is, what your passion is. You have to figure this out yourself. And they don't teach you how to achieve this. You have to figure this out too.

In today's society, is much more difficult to create a life around your passion and calling. Society is set up in such a way that you can become an employee at a passionless job, that's just fine.

But just fine is not enough when this is the only life you got.

You set the standard

You will never reach your destiny, you'll never achieve your goals by slacking through life. That's not going to cut it.

The majority are slackers. The majority avoids doing the work. And these people never achieve their goals. And that's no surprise. In fact, it's probably their own fault. They just don't realize that this is their only life. Their only chance.

Your standards are determined by your environment. By the people you spend the most time with. And because of this, you are not aware of your low standards.

Because everyone around you settles for less, you settle for less.

To make something of your life, you must start to understand that this is your only life. Waking up at 5AM to work on you goals is much easier when you realize that one day, you won't be able to wake up to work.

Set the standard of waking up early every morning to work on your goals. When the rest of the world is asleep, you work.

You have to change your mindset from should to must. That's the only difference between average men, and excellent men.

Their standards are so high. They must work on their goals. They must be physically fit. They must be working on their business. There are no should's in a great man's vocabulary.

Because of that, there is no need for discipline and motivation. There is no doubt. These man understand that this is the only life they got.

They refuse to settle for less. And you should so too!

How does it feel like to do everything half-assed? You do your job half-assed. Your studies, your relationships, your health. You end up with an half-assed life. It's simple arithmetics.

The first step in making something of your life is to realize that this is the only life you got.

Realize that, when you are now 20 years old, you got about 30-40 years to achieve everything you ever wanted. After that, you are too old.

The earlier you start, the earlier you can enjoy the fruits.

The second step is to set high standards for everything. In your job, give 110%. Always go the extra mile. Not because you like your job so much, but because that's how you are.

Stop eating junkfood. Your body deserves healthy food. You respect your body enough to go out and spend more on healthy food than on garbage.

In the gym you do an extra rep. that's your standard. Always going the extra mile.

You start doing this with everything. Change your should to a must and watch your life transform. But especially, watch your mindset transform.

It's now or never to achieve your goals and create your dream life.

Excellence is not an act, it's a habit

In everything you do, start having high standards. This is how you become an excellent person:

We are what we repeatedly do. Therefore excellence is not an act, but an habit - Aristotle

This will get you far in life. Especially because most people aren't setting high standards for themselves. This is how you become a King.

At first, it will cost you a lot of energy. Your brain is wired to save as much energy as possible. To go the extra mile is costing more energy.

You have to be stronger than that. You have to think long-term. You have to make it an habit, an automatic behavior. In everything you do, strive to be excellent. Don't settle for an 'okay-ish' result.

If you want this 1 life to count, you have to take responsibility for everything you do. The only way to do this, is to set very high standards for yourself.

When you are okay with an 'okay-ish' job, and 'okay-ish' health, your life will be 'okay-ish'.

Take personal responsibility

It's time to take personal responsibility for everything in your life.

We all know people who had a lot of talent when they were young. But because they set low standards for themselves, they now have an average-Joe life. They settled for less. And you can see it in their eyes.

The only way to achieve your goals, is to set high standards. A successful business is built on high standards. You can't half-ass a business. You'll fail.

If you don't set high standards for your health, your health will deteriorate.

It's the same with relationships. Your friends will be bums and your partner won't respect you.

To live a great life, in an abundance of wealth and health and love, setting your standards high is the solution.

Observe society and see for yourself. All people who live an above average life set very high standards.

The common expression is: Do easy things, have an hard life. Do hard things, have an easy life.

Setting high standards for yourself is hard. I'ts much easier to watch a movie at night instead of working on your goals or side hustle.

Building your own business pays of more dividends than watching movies every night. But it's a lot harder to do. You decide your standard.

Society pays people with high standards. In your career, having high standards pays off. You'll eventually become the best man for the job only because you do more than your coworkers.

You can see immediately in someone else how much respect they have for themselves. And others can see that in you. You can see the standard people have.

The treasure is earned

In Paul Coelho's 'The Alchemist', a shepherd boy has a dream of a treasure. To find this treasure, he has to overcome doubts, thieves, desserts and wars. But he didn't give up. In the end high found his treasure.

He could've never found the treasure if he half-assed it. He set the highest standard possible and was even willing to risk his life.

Your treasure, your goals and dreams, are all on the other side of hard work.

If you settle for less, you'll never achieve them.

That's the choice you have to make: will I do everything within my power to achieve my goals? Or will I live a life of complacency and settle for less?

Start setting the standards for yourself very high.

Create your life

You decide what your life is going to be like. Realize, that this is the only life you got. This is it.

Is it going to be a life of watching TV, eating garbage, talking trash and then die?

Or is it going to be a life of achievement, wealth and love, and then die?

You set your standards. Your standards make your habits. And your habits make your life.

Don't waste it.

What to do next

From now on moving forward, give 100% in everything you do. If you work at Starbucks, make the best coffee possible and be the best employee possible.

If you go to the gym, go as hard as you can. Read a book tonight instead of numbing yourself with Netflix and social media.

Set high standards in everything you do. And watch your life transform.
